Note: 84 of the 106 dogs transferred into SHS from out-of-area partner shelters were small-breed dogs. This allows SHS to utilize available kennel capacity while preserving space and resources for local large-breed dogs, which typically remain in our care significantly longer. Died in Care includes neonatal puppies and kittens that did not survive despite intensive veterinary and foster care.

Notes: Nearly all out-of-area transfer dogs were small breeds, allowing Sequoia Humane Society to maximize available kennel capacity while preserving space for local dogs, particularly large breeds, which typically remain in care longer before adoption. SHS maintains capacity for 6 large-breed dogs and more than 30 small-breed dogs at any given time. Every transferred or surrendered animal receives a behavioral and medical assessment to ensure our organization has the appropriate resources, kennel space, funding, and staff expertise to provide safe, high-quality care.
