Volunteering is a chance to make new friends, learn new skills, and create positive change in the community. The important work our organization accomplishes would not be possible without the generous contributions of our volunteers.
After you have filled out a volunteer application, you can complete your orientation online.
After you’ve completed the online orientation please call or email us to schedule your initial service hour. We provide these appointments Tuesday-Saturday between the hours of 10-3. After your initial service hour you are able to volunteer any day between the hours of 8-430.
The initial service hour will generally consist of supporting the shelter in various ways, which may include:
-Washing dishes
-Sweeping & Mopping Floors
-Cleaning cattery & kitten nursery (replacing linens, cleaning litter boxes, wiping kennels, etc.)
-Cleaning dog kennels (replacing linens, cleaning waste, washing and drying kennels, etc.)
-Feeding and watering cats and dogs
-Laundry
-Cleaning bathrooms
-Sanitizing animals supplies & toys
Sequoia Humane Society does also have skilled volunteer positions available for front desk, administrative work, special events, transportation for out of area shelter transfers, and volunteer coordinating.
When your initial service hour is completed you’ll be eligible for our Buddy Up program. This program provides training and information on handling our dogs and cats. We have several levels of dog walking abilities; beginner, intermediate and advanced. Each level comes with additional training to ensure that both you and our animals are safe.
***If under 18 a parent or guardian will be required to fill out an application and be onsite for supervison during all volunteer hours
